About Australia
Work rights begin the week you land, which changes the household budget more than any scholarship does. Sydney and Melbourne are costly; Adelaide, Perth and regional campuses are cheaper and carry extra migration points.

The education system
- Bachelor's: 3 to 4 years
- Master's: 1.5 to 2 years
- Grading: HD, D, C, P
Two year master's degrees are common because the length itself feeds into post-study work rights. A shorter course can cost you a year of work permission.

What students usually do
- Hospitality
- Retail
- Aged care
- Farm work
The minimum wage here is among the highest anywhere, which is why part-time work covers a genuine share of living costs.
Plan your budget as though you will earn nothing in the first two months. Finding a job takes longer than anyone expects, and a visa officer will not accept part-time income as proof of funds either.
Applying to Australia
When to start
Work backwards from the intake month. Applications close roughly three months before, and the visa takes another six to twelve weeks after that. For a February intake, the sensible starting point is about six months earlier.
Intakes: February, July
